Indian Railway launches First CNG train
The first CNG train
Indian railway launched it’s first ever train that runs on CNG. This is considered as an important step towards replacing traditional fuels with green fuel.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the train. The train runs on dual fuel system i.e. diesel and CNG.
The railway has been modified to run on dual fuel with the help of fumigation technology.
The train would currently run on 20% of CNG. It is able to cover a distance of 81 km in around two hours.
Gradually the percentage of CNG usage will be increased to the level of 50%.
