Hypothyroidism is on rise in India: Survey reveals the fact

According to a recent survey carried out by Indian Thyroid Society, hypothyroidism continues to grow significantly in the country, particularly among women.

However, the study has found that awareness about hypothyroidism in India is still very low.

Facts revealed

  1. One in 10 adults suffer from hypothyroidism in India
  2. Women are three times more likely to be affected by hypothyroidism than men
  3. Awareness of thyroid ranked 9th compared to other common diseases
  4. Awareness of thyroid is higher in south and east India compared to northern and western parts of India.

  1. Increase in the cholesterol level
  2. Increase in the rate of cardiovascular complications
