World Badminton Championship : Saina Nehwal Lost final to Carolina Marin

Despite a brave fight, Saina Nehwal lost the final of the World Badminton Championship to the world number one Carolina Marin of Spain.

The World Badminton Championship was held in Jakarta.

Saina lost 16-21, 19-21.

However, world number 2 Saina suceeded to retain the silver which is her great achievement for India. She became the first Indian to win silver in the World Badminton Championship.

  • She became world champion in women’s singles in 2014 and 2015.

Saina Nehwal

  • Born on 17 March 1990
  • She is an Indian badminton player
  • She is currently ranked No. 2 in the world by Badminton World Federation Women’s Singles 2015.
  • She is the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics.
  • She achieved this feat by winning the Bronze medal at the London Olympics 2012 on 4 August 2012.
  • She is also the first Indian after Prakash Padukone and the first Indian woman to become world number 1.
  • Besides these, she is the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships and was also the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament, by clinching the Indonesia Open on 21 June 2009.
