Share of Muslim population in India increases to 14.2% from 13.4%

According to a report from the 2011 census the share of Muslim population in India has been increased to 14.2% from that of 13.4% within the period of 2001 to 2011.

The report also shows that there has been 24% rise in the population of Muslims from 2001 to 2011. However, the growth rate of the Muslim population has slowed down to 24% from earlier 29%. But, this growth rate is still higher than the national average of 18% for the decade.

Assam witnessed the highest increase in the share of Muslims, from 30.9% to 34.2% of the state’s total population.

Manipur is the only state to have witnessed the fall in the Muslim population.
