Rohan Murthy

In a philanthropic initiative by Rohan Murty, a library of rare ancient Indian classical literature has been launched. The library contains texts going as far as back 3 BCE. This literary project is headed by well known Sanskrit scholar Sheldon Pollock and published by Harvard University Press.

Eminent economist Amartya Sen released the first set of books containing Bulle Shah’s work in Gurumukhi, Akbarnama in Persian, Surdas’ poetry, Manucharitramu in Telugu and many other classic texts.

Over the next seven years, 48 volumes of these classic texts will be published, under the series named Murty Classical Library of India. It will contain the literature translated from around 14 Indian languages.
