August 31, 2015Person in NewsOmkar Sawant

Rajiv Mehrishi, 1978 batch IAS of Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Union Home secretary. He succeeded LC Goyal, an IAS officer of 1979 batch of Kerala cadre.

Mehrishi will occupy the post for two years with effect from 31 August 2015. He was to retire on the day of appointment, but was given an extension of two-year.

Mehrishi was holding the post of Finance Secretary. He will be the third Home Secretary of the present NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prior Home Secretaries

LC Goyal, outgoing Home secretary had sought voluntary retirement from government service due to personal reasons. He was appointed as the Home Secretary in February 2015 after Anil Goswami sought voluntary retirement after his name had emerged in a CBI probe for granting favour to an accused in the Saradha chit find scam, Mathang Singh.
