The Sunni radical group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is said to be recruiting and operating in some provinces of Afghanistan.

A man identified as Mullah Abdul Rauf - a former Taliban commander, has been claiming to represent ISIS in the southern Helmand province.

He is said to be setting up a network of followers who are inviting people to join them.

However, the militant group has been fighting with the local Taliban. Taliban leaders in this region have warned people to have nothing to do with Rauf.

What is ISIS :

  1. Islamic State of Iraq and Syria
  2. A radical conservative Islamic organisation
  3. It has proclaimed to have established caliphate in Syria and Iraq
  4. It has started to attract people from different parts of the world to travel to Syria to take part in the struggle for building the Islamic State
  5. Many Europeans and Americans have joined this radical group over the past couple of years
  6. This has prompted the western powers to form a coalition to battle the group.
