India has 1 million malnutrition deaths every year: UNICEF

According to Unicef, 1 million children under five die, every year, due to malnutrition in India. The figure is far beyond the emergency threshold for ‘acute malnutrition’ as per WHO classification.

India is at the top-most position in malnutrition, among south Asian countries.

What is UNICEF?

  • Previously named as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
  • Now, called as The United Nations Children’s Fund
  • United Nations Program headquartered in New York City
  • Provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries
