First time in the history, Belgium moved to the top of the FIFA world ranking list in football. The team rose from third to first position after overtaking Argentina and the world champions Germany.
This was followed by Belgium’s victories in October’s European qualifiers.
The former No. 1 – Argentina, dropped to third, while Copa America champions – Chile rose four places to fifth which is their highest ranking ever. Austria improved by one place to achieve its best ever position of tenth place.
Iran continued to top the rankings among AFC (Asian Football Confederation) countries followed by Korea and Japan.
India slipped five places to 172nd in the latest chart. India lost six ranking points after their defeat at the hands of Turkmenistan and Oman in their 2018 World Cup qualifiers in October 2015 and they now have 122 points.
