Censor board chief resigns on account of bureaucratic interference

By giving the reasons like bureaucratic interference, coercion and corruption, censor board chief Leela Samson quit the post. Her resignation was followed by the resignation of other board members.

However government has denied the charges and asked Mrs. Samson to show any evidence of interference.

What is Sensor Board?

  1. The Central Board of Film Certification
  2. Generally referred to as the Censor Board
  3. Statutory censorship and classification body
  4. Established under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India
  5. Carries out the task of regulating the public exhibition of films under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act 1952
  6. Grants certifications to films, television shows, television ads, and publications for exhibition, sale or hire in India
  7. A Films can be publicly exhibited in India only after they are certified by the Censor Board
