61st edition of Fortune 500 list released; 7 Indian companies in the list

61st edition of ‘the Fortune 500 list for the year 2015’ was released on 22 July 2015.

In 2015, Fortune 500 companies account for 12.5 trillion US dollars in revenue, 945 billion US dollars in profit and 17 trillion US dollars in market value and employ around 26.8 million people worldwide.

Who are the Toppers?

The list has been topped by retail giant Walmart and is followed by petroleum refining giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron at 2nd and 3rd place. Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway comes at 4th place followed by Apple Inc at 5th place.

How the Companies are Ranked?

Companies have been ranked by total revenues for their respective fiscal years ended on or before 31 March 2015. Revenue figures include consolidated subsidiaries and reported revenues from discontinued operations, but exclude excise taxes.
