After a gap of 32 years, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R Sampanthan became the first tamilian to lead the opposition of in the Sri Lankan parliament.
For the fourth time Ranil Wickremesinghe became the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Wickremesinghe was active in Sri-Lankas parliament since 1977. He had served the country as its Prime Minister on three occasions. He was PM during 1993-94, 2002-2004 and since January 2015.
United National Party (UNP) led United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) coalition with 106 seats emerged as the winner in the 2015 Parliamentary elections of Sri Lanka. However it failed to secure absolute majority in the Parliament of 225 members.
