The Reserve Bank of India signed a Special Currency Swap Agreement with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Under the arrangement, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka can draw up to 1.1 billion US dollar for a maximum period of six months.

Sri Lanka signed a civil nuclear co-operation agreement with India. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has entered into such co-operation with any country. According to analysts this is a sign that Sri Lanka under its new leader, President Maitripala Sirisena, is veering towards India as a partner of first choice.
