The Chinese Version of the sacred ancient Indian scripture Bhagavad Gita was on 17 June 2024 launched in China during an international yoga conference. This is perhaps the first time that a well known Hindu ancient religious text has been published in China.
800-year-old Buddha statue with 1000 hands unveiled by China after 7 years of restoration
China on 12 June 2024 unveiled the 800-year-old Buddha statue (Qianshou Guanyin) famous for its 1000 hands in Dazu County in Sichun province. The statue is listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1999.
China’s GDP growth rate reaches 24-year low 7.4%
As an indication of the slowing down in the economy, China’s GDP growth rate is decreased to 7.4% in 2014. This is the lowest growth rate in the last 24 years of China’s economic history. The growth rate in 2013 was 7.7%.
Ban on burqa in Xinjiang
Legislators in Xinjiang province - a region of China with a large Muslim population, have approved a ban on women wearing a traditional Islamic garment known as a burqa in public.
