Two Indians namely Dr Ananda Kumar and Dr Pramod Patil on 29 April 2015 won the prestigious Whitley Awards (also known as Green Oscar) for their contribution to wildlife conservation.
Pakistan on 21 April 2015 conferred its top civilian award Nishan-e-Pakistan on Chinese President Xi Jinping. The award was conferred for his outstanding contribution in promotion of relationship between the two countries.
The New York Times on 20 April 2015 won two prestigious Pulitzer prizes for coverage of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The coverage is described by the Pulitzer board as courageous and vivid journalism that engaged the public and held authorities accountable.
The 87th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honoured the best films of 2014 and took place on February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented Academy Awards (popularly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories.
Bhalchandra Nemade became the fourth Marathi writer to win the Jnanpith award – India’s highest literary award. Nemade is the only marathi writer after V S Khandekar (1974), V V Shirwadkar (1984) and Vinda Karandikar (2003) to win Jnanpith award.
