Despite a brave fight, Saina Nehwal lost the final of the World Badminton Championship to the world number one Carolina Marin of Spain.
The World Badminton Championship was held in Jakarta.
Saina lost 16-21, 19-21.
However, world number 2 Saina suceeded to retain the silver which is her great achievement for India. She became the first Indian to win silver in the World Badminton Championship.

- Besides these, she is the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships and was also the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament, by clinching the Indonesia Open on 21 June 2009.
