Population of tiger increases by 30% in 4 years

As a result of tiger conservation projects the population of tigers in India is increased by 30% in last four years. Now, there are more than 2,200 tigers in India. The fact is revealed by the latest census conducted in 2014.

Total number of tigers in India (according to 2006 census) 1,411
Total number of tigers in India (according to 2010 census) 1,706
Total number of tigers in India (according to 2014 census) 2,226
  1. The southern states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala) has one third of the total Tigers in the country
  2. Karnataka has the highest number of Tigers in India
  3. Karnataka is home to 70% of the world’s tiger population
  4. Mudumalai – Bandipur – Nagarhole – Wayand forest corridor in the Western Ghats has world’s single largest tiger population
  5. The corridor is spread across Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
  6. The corridor is home to 570 tigers
