Govt of India to mint coin of Rs 125 for Ambedkar’s 125th anniversary

August 29, 2015HistoryOmkar Sawant

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in 2016, the government of India has decided to mint a coin of Rs 125.

The motive behind minting such a coin with an unusual value is to pay tribute to the architect of the Constitution of India and radical social reformer on his 125th birth anniversary next year (2016).

Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891.

About the Coin

  • The coin will carry a picture of Ambedkar with the words ‘125th birth anniversary celebrations’ etched on it and the denomination embossed prominently.
  • The government is also planning to release a commemorative postal stamp.
  • Besides this, the government is also planning to start razing the building at 26, Alipur Road, in Delhi around October to pave the way for the construction of an Ambedkar memorial.
