2014 was the warmest year : A study

January 17, 2015EnvironmentOmkar Sawant

2014 was the warmest year

Re-emphasizing the threat of climate change, scientists have claimed that 2014 was the hottest ever year since 1880. 2014 have surpassed 2010 which was earlier treated as the hottest year.

The study was carried out on the basis of a global temperature record that goes back to 1880. The study has undermined the claims of climate-change-sceptics that the global warming had stopped.

What is Climate Change?

  • A change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns that lasts for an extended period of time i.e. decades to millions of years
  • A change in average weather conditions
  • Caused by factors such as:
    1. biotic processes
    2. variations in solar radiation received by Earth
    3. plate tectonics
    4. volcanic eruptions
    5. Certain human activities
  • Such kind of change in the climate is often referred to as “global warming”
